Margaret Hughes Hope Tribute Fund

Margaret Hughes was born on March 26th, 1950 & passed away peacefully at home on 11th May 2010 with her family around her. The outstanding attendance at St Christopher's Church in Pott Shrigley on 24th May, for the service of celebration for Margaret's life was indeed testament to the esteem by which she was held by all who knew and loved her. Margaret had battled against breast cancer since 1997. She became a member of Breakthrough Breat Cancer's Campaign & Advocacy Network (CAN), in 2002 and added her voice to make changes to breast cancer services and treatments to shape the lives and futures of others. Margaret contributed as a member of the Genetics Advisory Panel to campaign for improvements to services for people with a family history of breast cancer. One of the main campaigns to which the Panel contributed addressed the aspect of Testing Times. (Most areas of Englnad are now meeting waiting time targets for genetic results and Breakthrough supporters' are no longer reporting unduly long delays). Following recommendations from Margaret's eminent surgeon, Lester Barr in 2006, she volunteered for a series of photographs to be used for The Genesis Appeal. These were made availbale on a web site providing information for women suffering from breast cancer. Regrettably, her declining health towards the end of last year prevented her from accepting an invitation to attend Breakthrough's Westminster Fly-I to meet her MP. This lobbying event is held yearly during October Breast Cancer Awareness month at the Houses of Parliament for one to one discussion with the repective Member of Parliament. Margaret gave time, effort and committment to make improvements for others. Her legacy has continued through the generous donations made to date. Charitable funds are of vital importance in helping The Christie reach its vision of a future without cancer and gifts will be a huge help.
